Joyeuse family

   Anne, duke de Joyeuse (1561-87), admiral of France, was born in Joyeuse, vivarais. He was a favorite of King henry III, who covered him with honors. He was sent to fight the Calvinists in Guyenne and was killed at the Battle of Coutras. François de Joyeuse (1562-1615) cardinal and brother of Anne, duke de Joyeuse, negotiated the reconciliation of henry IV with the Holy See and crowned marie de' medici and louis хш. He served as president of the Estates General (1614). Henri, duke de Joyeuse (1567-1608), brother of Anne, duke de Joyeuse and Cardinal François de Joyeuse, was born in Paris. He became a Capuchin monk upon the death of his wife, Catherine de La valette, then returning to the secular world, led the armies of the holy league in the Languedoc, where henry iv, to whom he had belatedly made his submission, named him governor and at the same time marshal of France. Henri, duke de Joyeuse returned to the Capuchin order in 1599.
